Minibus Routes

Minibus Routes

Minibus is a popular public transport in Hong Kong. It is much faster than taking buses but cheaper than taking taxis. There are 2 kinds of minibuses. One is in red and the other one is in green. For the red minibuses, their route, headway and fare are not subject to any regulation, Passengers can even call to reserve seats for some lines. It is quite speedy and usually skips stops when no one gets off it. That is why the price is a bit higher, but still affordable.

For the green ones, they have fixed routes and fares. There are more than 300 routes operating around Hong Kong. Each minibus can accommodate no more than 19 passengers. Some minibuses run 24 hours a day. Make sure you wave your hands to flag them down when they approach, otherwise they may not stop. Or when they are full, they won’t stop too. Don't be shocked.

To find the right minibus, you have to check its route plates. Each route plate carries lots of information. The signature colour combination is Red-white-blue. For the red sign, it indicates the destination of the route while the blue words are the stops it passes by. This kind of route plate has become an art form and there are classes teaching this calligraphy.
